Maria Pevchikh, assistant to Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny, has claimed that a exchange of prisoners where the Kremlin critic was involved was in the final phase before he died in a Siberian prison.
Pevchikh, leader of the Navajo Foundation vs. - Corruption, said on Monday through a YouTube video that Navalny's aides have been working for two years to convince Western officials to negotiate an agreement that would include the Kremlin critic and two American citizens held in Russian prisons, for Vadim Krasikov, former federal Security Service Colonel (FSB) in Russia, who was convicted of killing a former Chechen fighter in Berlin in 2019.
She did not mention the names of two American citizens who were scheduled to trade.
Currently, there are some Americans being held in Russian prisons, including former businessman Paul Whelan, American daily Wall Street Journal columnist Evan Gershkovich, and Radio Free Europe reporter Alsu Kurmaseva.
Navajo would be included in the deal as part of a “humanitarian exchange”.
“in early February, Putin has been offered to exchange the killer of FSB, Vadim Krasikov, who is serving the sentence for a murder in Berlin, for two American citizens and Alexei Navajo. I have accepted confirmation that the negotiations were in the final phase at the February 15th meeting. On February 16th, Alexei was killed”, Pevchikh said.
“Alexei Navally could have sat with us here, today”, she added.
Its statements have not been confirmed or rejected by other sources.
Asked about the matter on February 26th, German Government spokesman Christiane Hoffmann has said he cannot comment.
Earlier this month, Putin told US commentator Tucker Carlson that “an agreement could be reached”, to free Gershkovichin, who was arrested in March last year in Russia, on charges of spying, which he and the Government have considered groundless, with a Russian <x2patiot”, which is believed to have been a reference to Krasikov. /rel/
