Thirty-three years ago, on February 20, 1991, communist dictator Enver Hoxha's bust collapsed, tens of thousands of citizens attended.
This was prompted by hunger strikes undertaken by several hundred students to remove his name from the university.
February 20th has been designated a national memory day for martyrs and victims of the communist regime. It actually marked the end of the dictatorship in Albania.
Images of those events, in “Square Skenderbej”, spread around the world and once again put Albania in focus of international developments.
With the fall of the dictator's bust, the breakup of the past was also marked with the beginning of a new era, that of democracy.
