Whatsapp will no longer work on these iPhones from May 2025

From May 5th 2025, whatsapp will no longer function in the oldest iPhone models. The company reports Apple iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have been affected.

The reason is that from May of next year, whatsapp will only function on equipment supporting at least OS 15.1 . So Apple does not offer any updates for the devices mentioned above. This is a common practice in old models.

The equipment is over ten years old.

Recently, Whatsapp also announced it would complete support for KaiOS equipment from February 2025. This decision affects millions of users worldwide after KaiOS, an operating system based on Firefox OS, was designed specifically for simpler mobile phones. According to the company, about 130 million equipment in 100 countries is equipped with this system.
