Germany's Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, has warned her Chinese counterpart that Beijing's support for Moscow would affect ties and instead urged China to help end the war in Ukraine.
Speaking in Beijing, she said over 1,000-day war is affecting the whole world, foreign media write.
According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), Baerbox demanded an international peace process for Ukraine and said “this is why I am here in China today”, adding that each permanent member of the UN Security Council had a “responsibility for world peace and security”.
Russia's “President not only is destroying our European peace order through his war against Ukraine, but is now drawing Asia into it through North Korea”, she was quoted as saying at a news conference.
So my Chinese counterpart and I have discussed deep down that this can't even be in China's interest”.
She met with China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi for a strategic “dialog”, while Berlin seeks to build better ties with China by engaging in key differences.
China presents itself as a neutral party in the Ukrainian war and says it is not sending lethal assistance to either side, unlike the US and other Western countries.
But it remains a close political and economic ally of Russia, and NATO members have said Beijing is a crucial “supporting” of the war, which it has never condemned.
“Drons from Chinese factories and North Korean troops that attack peace in the middle of Europe are violating our main European security interests”, Baerbox said. /Telegraph
