The economy ministry on Wednesday has appealed to citizens to save the electricity, especially in certain periods during the day and night, as according to them, the large burden is endangering the network and forcing some settlements to have reductions.
The Kosovar Company for Electricity Supply (KESCO) on Tuesday has sent messages to citizens on the telephone, calling on them to save the electricity. Dear consumers, high consumption is overloading our assets, risking their damage and power cuts. Please save your energy”, it's in KCO's message.
And in a media communiqué, the Economy Ministry has said COST and KDS have reported that the level of electricity consumption has reached very high levels during a meeting they had last night in the hour.
“COMM STT and KEDS report that, with temperatures down, electricity consumption has reached very high levels, over 1400 MW at certain times. As a result, our electro-energenetic system is heavily burdened, causing technical difficulties in supply and endangering the network; hence, it has been necessary for operators to shut off in some settlements where cargo has been unaffordable to the network. The difficulties have been faced especially in the municipalities of Ferizaj, Lipjan, Gjakova, Malisheva, Gjilan, Shtime, Istog and Prizren, and in turn some of the settlements that are supplied by infected lines may have been affected. While the COSTT and KED teams are constantly working on the ground to minimize the impact on the supply of citizens”, the communique says.
Furthermore, the ministry has said similar problems have been experienced in Fushesh-Kosovo, “but with the energeticisation of the new 110kV substation over the past week, the burden has been greatly eased and the supply problem addressed for residents of this municipality”.
The ministry announced that the issue with electricity is expected to be resolved in Ferizaj over the following week, “when construction of the third substation” will end.
“In the first quarter of 2025, other investments are planned for the municipalities of Malisheva and Dragas with the aim of long-term solutions for sustainable energy supply. The holiday season is usually marked by increased electricity consumption, so they are critical in terms of supply security”, followed by communique.
The economy ministry has appealed to citizens to save electricity, especially during the morning from 0900 p.m. to 1600 p.m.
“Energy savings at these hours is essential to avoid overloads and preserve the system's functionality for all. We wish citizens that where it is possible to use alternative heating sources such as wood or diapers and to shift electricity consumption after midnight”, their communique concludes.
