Through one Business For the media, this minister has said this move constitutes a violation of human rights and standards for protection of minorities, according to them, Albanians from access to basic services and exercising their fundamental rights.
“Passing addresses is not a purely legal issue, but there are consequences on the daily lives of Albanians in this region, violating their rights and equality” ) said in response.
The ministry has said it has addressed and will continue to address this issue in dialogue with Serbian authorities, as well as international forums.
Thousands of ethnic Albanians from three municipalities in southern Serbia -- Medvedja, Bujanoc and Presevo -- have been marked as non-active “by Serb authorities there.
That means they can't renew their identification documents, or exercise their rights seeking IDs, like voting. The issue has triggered a host of street protests in the region.
Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi has also raised the issue during the week.
Bislimi has written on the X platform that the verdict of the Constitutional Court of Sebria “legalises the practice of systematic discrimination of the postecution of addresses targeting Albanians”.
Flora Ferati-Sachsenmeier, legalising Society, Policy and Culture at the University of Gotttingen, has calculated that between 2012-2019, the number of Albanian voters in Medvedja has dropped from 10.102 to 6.602. She believes “extension of” is the key factor of the decline. Ferati-Sachsenmeier has said pressure from the international community is necessary to ensure “simeter on the rights of ethnic minorities in the Western Balkans”.
