Matt Gaetz withdraws from race for US Attorney General

He was nominated for this post by Republican Donald Trump, who won the US presidential election November 5th.

Gaetz said this decision has been made due to a federal investigation into trafficking of human beings for sexual exploitation.

Republican from Florida made that announcement on November 21st.

The announcement came a day after he met with senators in an effort to win their support for confirming to lead the US Department of Justice.

While the current is powerful, it is clear that my unjust confirmation would be distraction from the critical work of the transition of Trump and [the president-elect American], JD] Vance”, Gaetz said in a statement to the media.

“There's no time to waste on the long-term crash in Washington, so I withdraw my name from the nomination to serve as Attorney General”, he said.

His pull presents a blow to Trump's efforts to put his loyal people at the top of departments as he returns to the White House on January 20th. Also, this case is the first signal that Trump could face resistance from members of his party. /rel
