Kolaj from IKD: State Supports Former KLA Chiefs in The Hague

With the approval of Kosovo's Specialised Chambers was passed the law guaranteeing judicial protection and financial support for all those facing these acts, but this year the Ministry of Justice has removed from the amendment coverage of unforeseen expenditures, covering only expenses within the defined limits. Recognitions of justice say [...]
The Ministry of Justice in 2024 has made a complement of the Administrative Guide for Legal Protection for Those Charged by Specialised Chambers in The Hague. However, not all of the charges held in custody at The Hague are being covered.
Astrit Kolaj from the Kosovo Institute for Justice said the state of Kosovo should cover all lawyers' expenses, but other expenditures to ensure the most dignified representation for all accused or suspects.
“Because the completion-changing has removed these two points, but these do not reason for the state, they should provide as effective protection for all accused in this court. All conditions must be provided and the countries of the region, such as Croatia, should be taken as an example, as it did with the protection of its indictees, and all indictees should be provided with as efficient and dignified protection in Kosovo's Specialised Chambers”, Kolaj said.
Lawyer Ardian Bajraktari says legal protection and financial support of persons accused by the Specialised Chambers is the legal obligation of the state of Kosovo.
The possibility has been removed since recent changes have been made that, due to reasonable reasons, when spending on the Ministry of Administrastration has exceeded, this additional opportunity has been removed, so I appreciate that this has been largely reflective of the lack of political will to address this issue of over-emphatics, as the same face it there at the former KLA heads' capacity, said lawyer Bajraktari.
The “Support for the Jury Protection of Hashim Thaci” Foundation requires the Government of Kosovo to cover all expenses for professional protection, in accordance with the law adopted by the Kosovo Assembly to that end.
We seek only respect of the law. The changes made to Administrative Guide have put the former president Thaci's defence team in a situation of objective inability to carry out his post. In the absence of financial means one of Mr. Thaci, but even currently we are facing major difficulties in covering expenses and protecting members of the defence team”, a response to RTK is said.
On the other hand, Albanian Selimi, wife of former KLA commander Rexhep Selimi, who, as well, is in The Hague, has spoken on the subject.
“All of Rex Selimi's defence expenses are covered just as the agreement between the lawyer and the Justice Ministry faces, she said.
This minister has not answered RTK's question about this fund. But RTK has learned that the budget earmarked for 2024 for this division is over sixm euros, while the amount spent from January to July of this year on protecting the accused has reached over threem euros. /economics/
