Grenelli remains without a post, expected to receive

US President-elect Donald Trump has nominated retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg to serve as the United States' special envoy for the war in Ukraine.

Trump announced on Wednesday to his social network, the Social Truth, that he has chosen Kelloggin for this position.

Kellogg, who has been head of staff for the White House National Security Council during Trump's mandate from 2017 to 2021 and national security adviser to former Vice President Mike Pence, will likely play a key role in efforts to resolve the conflict in his new position.

Until the US currently has no special envoy for the war in Ukraine, Trump had expressed interest in the past to create this position.

This month it was reported that Trump would nominated Richard Green for this position.

In the past, Grenelli served as US ambassador to Germany, later as the United States' special envoy for dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, and as chief of national intelligence in Trump's first term as president.

The quick outcome of the war in Ukraine has been one of Trump's main pledges during the presidential campaign, even though he has never explained how he would achieve it.

“Keith has prominent military and business careers, including service in very sensitive roles of National Security during my first administration”, Trump said on his social network.

Kellogg has previously presented Trump with a plan for how to end the war in Ukraine.

Kellogg's plan to end the war, which began when Russia invaded Ukraine's sovereign territory in February 2022, includes freezing battle lines at their current whereabouts and forcing Kiev and Moscow to sit at the negotiating table, according to Reuters.
