The French ambassador talks about EU measures also links them to elections in northern municipalities: The sooner they hold the better

Guerot said these measures were the response to the Kosovo government's actions, actions that were uncoordinated and unfortunate.

After 17 months of imposing these sanctions on Kosovo, Guerot says they have either improved or changed, though he wants to have municipal elections as soon as possible, following those boycotting for the removal of mayors of four northern municipalities.

For the sake of reminding everyone, we had a massive withdrawal from Kosovo Serbs from institutions, including municipalities. We think these resignations have been very important for dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, as well as for the Serb community in Kosovo. We had elections that were boycotted, and the boycott has also been unfortunate because it has led to continuation of the blockade, however, at the initiative of the Government of Kosovo, which we have considered unfortunate and not welcome, in May 2023 that has also led to violence in Zvecan, with 90 KFOR military men who were injured along with Kosovo journalists”, Guerot said in Kosovo Clan.

The “Masses were set in response to this government action, which all of us, the EU felt was the unfortunate act”.

“17 months later some issues have either improved or changed. Because the referendum on the removal of mayors has also been boycotted, this has not changed the situation, but we think that the sooner we get new municipal elections, the sooner the better the”, he added.

“We have discussed over the summer that if these measures could be removed, there were some uncoordinated actions which had a negative effect on the discussions now. France is in favour of partially removing the measures, some divide it, not all hesitate, but cannot predict whether discussions can produce results by the end of the year”, he said.
