Richard Moore, who heads the British secret intelligence service known as MI6, said during a speech in Paris on November 29th that if Russian President Vladimir Putin would succeed in converting Ukraine into a vassal state, he would not stop there.
Our “Security, British, French, European and transatlantic, would be jeopardised”, he said.
“S Late, we have discovered a reckless Russian sabotage campaign in Europe, even as Putin and his allies use nuclear threats to stir fear over the consequences of Ukraine's aid”, he added.
Moore said the price of Ukraine's support is known, but added that “the price of inaction would be indefinitely higher. If Putin succeeded, China would weigh the consequences, North Korea would be encouraged and Iran would become even more dangerous”.
Moore's speech seems to be intended to unite European allies and to address skeptics about Ukraine's importance.
Other Western intelligence chiefs have warned that Russia has intensified sabotage actions.
NATO and Western intelligence services have said Russia stands behind a series of hostile activities throughout the Euro-Atlantic zone, such as ongoing cyber attacks, which Moscow denies.
The United Kingdom's Internal Intelligence Service said last month that the Russian military intelligence service GRU was aiming to promote “kaos” in Britain and Europe.
