On November 28, 1912, Vlora's National Assembly declared Albania's independence. The act of the Declaration of Independence constitutes one of the most important events in the history of the Albanian people. It was the product of centuries-old efforts and wars of Albanians, to protect the land of the homeland and to form the independent Albanian state.
With Vlora's decision, the Albanian nation gained its undeniable right to be free and independent, along with nations and other peoples of Europe.
28 November 1912 marks a historic turn for the Albanian people, for on the one hand the nearly five-year rule of the Ottoman Empire ended, and new political conditions were created to emerge from the great setback and its faster economic, social and cultural development.
The declaration of Independence was a major victory for Albanians, even against the anti-Albanian policy of neighbouring Balkan monarchs, against their intentions and plans for Albania's full fragmentation. The declaration of Independence and the establishment of the national flag in Vlora was a joint victory for all the Albanian people and for all the forces involved in the national liberation, rifles and pen.
The 28 November festival marks Albania's independence day, where various activities are organised.
