Former President George W. Bush gave his first statement of the 2024 presidential campaign Wednesday, congratulating former President Donald Trump for his victory.
I commend President Trump for his choice of 47th President of the United States of America as well as newly elected J.D. vice president. Vance and their families”, Bush said, writes BBC, broadcast newspaper Express.
He thanked President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for their service, and cited participation in the elections as a sign of our republic's health and the power of our democratic institutions”.
“Laura and I are grateful to election officials, pollers and volunteers overseeing free and fair elections. We join our fellow citizens in praying for the success of our new leaders at all levels of government”, he said.
Bush remained conspicuously silent in the 2024 race, refusing to back a candidate amid calls from Republicans as former President Liz Cheney and former assistant Nicolas Wallace to express his support for Harris.
