The European Union's high representative (BE) for foreign policy and security, Josep Borrell, praised today that the International Criminal Court's decision should be respected and implemented, which issued today arrest orders for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defence Minister Yoav Galant and Hamas' military wing leader Mohammed Deif.
This is not a political decision. It's a court ruling, an international justice court. And the court's decision should be respected and implemented“, Borrell said at a press conference in Amman, with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi.
The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu, Galant and Deif today, charging them with war crimes and crimes against humanity for war in Gaza and last October 7th's attack that triggered an Israeli offensive on Palestinian territory, writes resources.
This court ruling theoretically limits Netanyah's travel, since each state of the 124 court member states is obliged to arrest him in its territory.
“The decision is binding and all states -- all signatory states of the court statute, including all EU members -- are obliged to implement this decision by court”, the Spanish diplomat said.
According to Israel, Deif was killed in an attack on 13 July south of Gaza, but Hamas has denied his death.
Borrell, former minister of Spain, is expected to leave the EU position in December and will replace former Estonia Prime Minister Kaya Kallas. /Telegraphy/
