Zogaj: We spent 3m euros on stray dogs, government in empty words and no concrete steps

Among Pristina's problems is management with wandering dogs, where the number of people seeking medical assistance is high. Pristina Deputy Chairman Alban Zogaj has spoken about the problem.

The bird at Reel Talk with Maxun in Periscope said they are working to resolve this issue.

He added that there are currently 5 thousand on the streets of the capital while 3m euros are spent to solve this problem.

Zogaj has been critical of the Kosovo government, saying it is not being financially assisted.

At a certain moment, surveys of citizens with problems with stray dogs prove to be problem number 1. Nearly 70 percent of citizens rank as Pristina's main problem, and we are aware of that fact.

Five thousand stray dogs are on the streets of Pristina. We've spent three million euros to get into a process, catch the dog, sterilize it, vaccinate it, put it back on the street because that's how the law requires animal protection. We've come to a new solution. We built a big shelter for stray dogs. It accepts 500 dogs and what we're doing is gathering them from high-risk areas and one of those areas is QKUK. We have given orders to remove dogs from the KKUK yard and be sent to the centre of the shelter, Zogaj said.

He added that they call on citizens who can afford a yard, adapt dogs, and therefore, Zogaj said they will pay citizens.

Zogaj added that by the spring of 2025 more than 1,000 wanderers would adapt, he added that they share 50 euros a month for each of them as wanderers.

Pristina's deputy chairman added there is doubt that stray dogs are launched into the capital in a mobilized truck from surrounding municipalities.

“We have reports of police coming the dozens of stray trucks and released on Pristina territory. ”
