Oncologist Faton Sermajaj has declared that the Oncology Clinic at QKUK is facing lack of nurses, adding that breast cancer cases have increased in recent years.
He has declared on Thursday to KTV's <x0 Minutes” that, awareness of women's breast cancer control has increased, saying that recent years of diagnosis is taking place in the first stage.
We've been surprised for the past few years because the percentage of cases diagnosed in early times with cancer is greater than those in advanced times. So over 50 percent of the cases are discovered in early stages today. When discovered in early stages, the patient is offered easier treatment and life expectancy is greater, and sometimes we even talk about full recovery of patient”, Sermajaj said.
According to him, 22 oncologists currently work in Oncology.
“In Oncology about 150,200 patients per day receive therapy and 70 or 80 receiving radio therapy. There's a huge flow of patients. At present, working is in order, but currently we need to increase human capacities, such as the medical section, but especially in the nursing section. Because primary work nurses carry, they're in the halls and technically do the job... the Kancer usually matches the age postponed, 50-75-year-old, but even the latest cases are ruled out. We have also encountered cases under the age of 30, but these cases are rare”, he has expressed themselves.
Oncologist has added further that breast cancer can affect men, but this is the rarest in relation to women. He said that currently about 5 cases of breast cancer in men are being treated, and treatment has the same protocols in women.
Sermanjaj has added that a number of cancer patients require medical treatment abroad, which makes there are not accurate figures on cancer cases in Kosovo.
“consistently compare data and do better with numbers than countries in the region. The first approach is the average age younger than the countries of the region, and this puts us at an advantage. The bad element is because we still can't register the new cancer cases with great accuracy after not passing some to Oncology Clinic”, he has declared.
