Albania and Kosovo must have a joint defence strategy, says former Albania President Alfred Moisiu.
He stresses that the two countries should have greater co-operation even among the army headquarters, as only in this way, according to him, can Serbia face any kind of adventure.
In an interview for Kosovaress, Moisiu said Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, is the main mastermind of aggression against Kosovo through the terrorist attack in Banjska.
The attack on the Kosovo Police in Zvecan Banjska had occurred on 24 September last year, by a group of armed Serbs, during which police official Africa Bunnjak was killed.
The responsibility for the terrorist attack has been taken over by former Serbian List deputy Milan Radojic, a party that has Belgrade's support.
However, Albania's former president, Moisiu, stresses that Kosovo- Serbia must continue until it calls for greater co-ordination with allies, separately with the United States of America.
“I also criticised Government in Albania and Kosovo, as we need to coordinate more and better. Have a mutual protection strategy as a nation. The ministries of defence and general staff of the Albanian Army and the Kosovo Security Forces must co-operate. In this way we will be more solid and willing to cope with any kind of adventure”, he says.
According to him, it is unthinkable that the Serbian president was not locked in the terrorist attack on Banjska.
He [Vuchic] is head of the Serbian state. I can't imagine that a state like Serbia, which is a dictatorial state with the right to act someone without knowing the head of state. I can't imagine that. You can say anything, but I can't believe it. He has been inside and has hand in these things [terrorist attack on Banjska]. This is disturbing”, the former Albanian president declares.
Moisiu cites Serbia's hegemonic ambitions over Kosovo, however, stresses that Brussels' dialogue should continue for reaching a final agreement.
“Dialogue will continue, it is known. But they [Serbia officials] have their own goals and give up those goals. I showed one case in 2002, before I was president of Albania I was in Belgrade invited to a conference. There I met a Serbian Army general, talking to them, What do you have, what is this Kosovo-metohi? Sjka Metohi, this is Kosovo. He told me: Mr. Moses, we are now at the border with you, but slowly as we approach. Look at their mentality. They still dream that Kosovo is the cradle of Serbia. These are really dreams that they feed and keep alive”, he says.
Albania's former president stresses the need for leaders in Kosovo to co-ordinate with allies, separately with the United States, for operations in the north.
“Actions, Kosovo politicians must co-ordinate with our allies, especially the United States of America, but the European Union as well. After all, they love us after they help us create the state of Kosovo. They didn't create the country to tear it apart, of course. But we too need to know how to conduct ourselves. We need to coordinate our actions. That doesn't mean we're gonna let everything go. No. But we have to talk, because any stubbornness is to our detriment more... the government of Kosovo has a right to worry, but I criticized, not its concern, but the manner of action. We must cooperate with our allies. We need to deal with the United States on how to handle things better. This is not resolved immediately, but it takes organisation to find the path to co-operation”, he said.
The Kosovo government has also been criticised for actions in the north by the United States, which those actions have considered unilateral. / K SP
