Kosovo Police Inspectorate (IPK) has indicated that it has recommended the suspension of two police officials in northern Kosovo.
The IPK said the request was made after the same group allegedly mistreated a citizen a few days ago.
“Referring to claims of abuse by police in North Mitrovica over an incident in “Square, Lzazar” of October 26th 2024, IPK investigators have recommended today the suspension of two police officials (a sergeant and a police official) engaged in the Regional Police Directorate in North Mitrovica”.
The suspension recommendation has been made in the interest of the investigation on the suspicion that the same are involved in the citizens' mistreatment in this case”, he said. IPK.
This institution has said that other investigative actions in co-ordination with the competent prosecutor will be undertaken under legal authorization to clarify the circumstances of this case.
Earlier, The IPK had announced that according to official reports the incident had occurred on 26 October, when police arrested and accompanied a citizen to the police station with M.S. initials on suspicion that the same had damaged the property of a private store in the presence of police officials.
October 26, The IPK on Saturday, through a communique for the media, announced that through an investigation it would verify claims by a Serb citizen from Northern Mitrovica that it was mistreated by police officials during the arrest.
“The Police Inspector on official duty has begun the process of collecting information and preliminary investigations concerning claims of abuse by police, claims that have been made public today in different media and there has been a response from civil society in North Mitrovica”, the report said.
Kosovo police have denied these claims, claiming the same had been under the influence of alcohol and had attempted to cause damage to a commercial object.
