Dutch Eurodeput, Thijs Reuten, has called on European Union member states to lift punitive measures against Kosovo. He, among other things, expects a review of the dialogue process because according to him, it is not producing results.
He is not seeing results from the process of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia being mediated by the European bloc.
So Dutch MP in the European Parliament, Thijs Reuten, says it's time to review some things.
Dutch politician claims Europeans must be stricter on Serbia because the latter is playing a destabilising role in the region.
He has called on the Serbian state to be more constructive and to focus on membership in the European Union.
We need to review the dialogue process between Kosovo and Serbia because it is not producing the results that we would like to see. As for my opinion, we should be more strict towards Serbia because it is continuing to play a destabilising role in the region. I want to see Serbia take step towards membership in the European Union because that would be good for the entire Western Balkan region”, Reuta for Tv1 says.
On the other hand, Reuten has called for the removal of punitive measures against Kosovo because, as he considers, it is unfair.
He says that during this period there have been major incidents that have been left unpunished, citing here the pre-mility attack on Banjska.
The punitive measures should never have been imposed on Kosovo. There have been even greater incidents that have been left unpunished like the Banjska attack. No one so far has been punished by the Serbian government. Kosovo, of course, has to be improved on several issues, but punitive measures are not at all reasonable. Kosovo has not been and is not a destabilising factor in the region. The time has come for the bloc's member states to lift these punitive measures against Kosovo”, the eurodeput says.
On Thursday 24 October, the new round of meetings is expected in Brussels under the dialogue for normalisation of reports between Kosovo and Serbia, at the level of chief negotiators.
