Former Foreign Secretary David Cameron while he was in position was working on a plan to sanction two Israeli ministers -- Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir -- until the elections in the United Kingdom intervened.

Whitehall sources say Cameron's plans to impose a travel and freezing ban on assets were well advanced and ready to be realised. But sources say the decision was suspended due to fears of fuelling political tensions during the general election campaign, the BBC writes.

There were concerns about fostering violence in areas where views of the Middle East were polarised.

Cameron today called on the new lab government to continue with sanctions against them, noting statements they made encouraging people to stop convoys of aid entering Gaza and encouraging violence by colonists in the West Coast.

Foreign Secretary David Lami, Cameron's successor, said at an extraordinary event at his party's conference last month that he considered language used by the two ministers <x0).

And while in opposition, Lami was constantly critical of both Israeli ministers.

The foreign ministry never comments on future sanctions.

But some sources say any decision to sanction these two Israeli ministers could be postponed until after the US elections.

And with so little UK influence on Israel, domestic political factors can now play a bigger role in Lami's decision.
