Five members of an organised crime group have been convicted in the United Kingdom after smuggling 2.3 tonnes of cocaine hidden in a load of bananas from South America.
The detainees are Petko Zhutev, 39, from Bulgaria, and Albanians Gjergj Diko, 33, Bruno Kuci, 33, Olsi Ebija, 40, and Eric Muci, 44.
They were investigated by the Partnership for Organised Crime and arrested by police on industrial property in Tottenham, northern London, in February 2021, after taking over 41 cargo of bananas, which contained large quantities of cocaine.
Drugs were marked with various seals, corresponding to various organised crime groups aimed at distributing it on the streets of London and throughout the United Kingdom.
This operation is considered one of the largest seizures of this kind in British history, according to the National Crime Agency (NCA).
Petko Zhutev became director of a food company in December 2020, a firm that was once legitimate but later used as a <x0 base drug”.
Eric Muci, one of the main organisers of the operation, was responsible for controlling import and continuing supply of cocaine throughout the United Kingdom, as investigators discovered through the group's mobile devices.
This case underscores the seriousness and extent of increased organised crime activity in the United Kingdom, reports Portsmouth,Call it in.
