The Kosovo Journalists' Association expresses deep concern for the incident, which took place on October 1, 2024, in the town of Year, where police official M. S., has prevented PlusTv journalist Irfan Maliqi from covering a breast cancer awareness march.
According to media reports, images of police behavior show that he has approached the journalist with a threatening approach, saying: "Don't ever tell me again, just quietly have some consequences." ”
These actions are unacceptable and violate fundamental principles of press freedom and the right to information. Journalists, as representatives of public information, have the right to carry out their task without fear of pressure and threats. The AGK stresses that the actions of the rule officials should be in line with respect to human rights and media freedom.
Threats and orientation to journalists are unacceptable and undermine trust in security institutions. We ask Kosovo Police and the Kosovo Police Inspectorate to make a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident.
The AGK will continue to support journalists and work for a safer and cheaper environment for all those who contribute to public information.
