She said about 40 other people were injured in attacks on the town of Bayt Lahia. This town was among the first to be attacked even when Israel began the land invasion of Gaza a year ago.
The Israeli Army has not commented on the attacks so far, which said however it is “continuing to operate through the Gaza Strip through air raids and ground operations”.
Israel is conducting a major operation at the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, now two weeks old.
The military says it launched this operation against Hamas militants the Palestinian group, declared terrorist by the US and the EU, for which it said they were regrouping there.
The north of Gaza has experienced the greatest destruction by war and has been surrounded by Israel's army since last year, following the deadly attack that Hamas carried out in southern Israel on October 7, 2023, where he killed about 1,200 people and kidnapped about 250 others.
Israel ordered the entire population of northern Gaza to move south in the first weeks of war, and it was repeated earlier this month.
Most residents fled last year, but it is believed that some 400,000 people stayed in the north.
The Palestinians who were forced to move from the north to the beginning of the war were not allowed back.
Israel's Gaza war has killed over 42,000 Palestinians, according to local health authorities, who do not differentiate between fighters and civilians. The war has destroyed large parts of Gaza and displaced about 90% of the population of 2.3 million people. /Radio Europe Free
