Former O Monitor Mission Chief The SEU in Kosovo during the war, William Walker said that for the former KLA political director, Hashim Thaci, he had said bad <x0->bolts” during the time he was president.
Walker was on the “show. Z EN with Artan Behramin” in T7, where he related an event in the last weeks of Thaci's presidency, where he had expressed his repentance. There, the US diplomat said he changed his perception of Thaci.
Until he became president, I had the same report as I had with Ramush or with other politicians like Limaj... mention you. He was someone I visited almost every time I got here. For most of his presidency, I have been critical of Hashim Thaci. Often some things I said, when I looked back, were pretty bad for Hashim Thaci, mainly for the government at the time. During the last weeks of his presidency, I was here and a dinner was made for me by him and by Behgjet Pacolli. There was a lot of people, and at the end of the evening, I felt a little quiet and I got up and I said a few words, and I looked at President Thaci and said, "Now I regret saying a lot of bad things about you, and some of them I hope you didn't take as personal. I didn't know how he would answer. He stood up and said some very, very beautiful things. He said he remembers many of these things I had said to him, but I never took them as personal criticism. I have always taken them as your efforts to make Kosovo and me a better place. And there are no hard feelings. There I changed my perception of Hashim Thaci”, Walker said.
Now, he said he felt the obligation to contribute Thaci and other former KLA leaders to be released from prosecution by the Special Court in The Hague, while warning that he could be presented as a defence witness.
Then, when he faced the difficulties he is now facing, not only because he is undergoing a very unfair pursuit in The Hague, but I also feel obliged to try to do something better for him. Even for Kadri Veselin, and Jakup Krasniqi. I think they are being treated very unjustly by The Hague tribunal. I've been trying to do what's possible to help them, and I hope to appear as a defense witness when the prosecution finally ends prosecution. So I feel that I was very unjust to him when he was president, that I personalized certain things that I wouldn't need, and I would like to contribute to the establishment of justice in The Hague, which I think is not currently happening”, Walker said.
