The rapporteur for Kosovo in the European Parliament, Violet von Cremon, has called it a step towards de facto recognition by Serbia, recognition of RKS license plates. She has said she sees this as little progress in the right direction.
In an interview for Kosovo public television, Von Croamon has said she feels ashamed that Kosovo citizens have waited until 2017 for visa liberalisation, as according to her, the criteria have been fulfilled since 2018.
Cremon, who began a several-day visit to Kosovo on Friday, has met with leaders of institutions and opposition leaders. After several meetings, it has said that the <x0-level maturity of democracy depends not only on the stability of governance but also on the rights the opposition enjoys”.
The “on one side is a good thing, there is a stable majority in parliament, on the other side, yet the level of maturity of democracy depends not only on the stability of governance but also on the rights that the opposition enjoys and then on how it interacts with the opposition, and at this point I would say things could improve”, she said.
As for recognising Kosovo from Serbia, she has said it is difficult to predict. She has said there must be great pressure from the European Union and the United States of America to ensure that events such as Banjska do not repeat and that Serbia fulfils pledges in the sense of recognition.
“What we want to see and work on in this direction is accepting the Ohrid Agreement, and that the selective approach Serbia has chosen is not acceptable”, it added.
While, for the movement of Kosovo citizens to the state of Serbia with license plates of the Republic of Kosovo, (RKS) Von Croamon noted that he sees it as little progress towards the right direction that is not enough, but that there is another step towards knowledge of the defacto, adding that we must go to full recognition but that there is now slowly moving towards normalisation.
Von Croamon has added that Kosovo must implement the Association of Serb majority municipalities and that without its implementation it will be very difficult to move forward. / RTK
