Media in Montenegro have reported that Public Administration Minister Maras Dukaj has been threatened by a dangerous Turkish criminal serving sentence in the neighbouring state.

Vijesti writes that Dukaj promised his friends from Kosovo and Albania that he would ask the Interior Ministry about the possibility of Binali Camgoz legally receiving asylum in Montenegro.

But when that did not happen, the Turkish citizen charged with serious crimes threatened him through members of the Kavaci criminal clan.

According to Montenegrin media, the episode occurred at the time Dukaj was a member of Dritan Abazovic's government.

I have made it clear to my friend that I am not responsible for these issues, but I have promised to contact my friends from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and ask for legal opportunities to grant asylum”, Dukay has stated in statements given to inspectors.

Dukaj has refused to tell inspectors who his friend from Kosovo was who connected him with Turkish mobsters.

According to information from “Vijest”, he was questioned in late July 2023, after the Special Police Department (SPO) and the National Security Agency (ANB) have received information that Camgoz is seriously threatening him with an uncontrolled promise.

The minister told the inspector that he had not promised help to Turkish convicts, but was afraid of his life as he was sure that Indri Kolesi, with whom he had talked about Camgoz, had done so in his name.

During the hearing, he explained that on July 27th last year, until he was on an official visit to northern Macedonia, he was called by secret police director Boris Milić, and had told him not to move too much and that due to serious threats there would be a added police association in Kosovo and Albania until the return to Montenegro.

Camgoz was arrested in Podgorica on July 6th 2022, and Montenegrin police announced at the time that he had a forged passport named Mehmet Ali Bayhan. Five other Turkish citizens were detained along with him, while Turkish media later announced that they were also being sought by their authorities.

Camgoz is allegedly the leader of an organised criminal group involved in murder, injuries, kidnapping, ban, extortion and torture committed in Izmir and the suburbs of the city.

“Binal Camgoz told a senior member of the Kavaci clan that I did not keep my promise to him, so he should send me a strong message.

Camgozin I've never even met him, nor have I had contact with him, but I know he is currently at the Directorate for Execution of Criminal Sanctions with prison sentences, and that the extradition procedure has been launched against him in Turkey. Suspects have a possible involvement of Camgoz in the killing of Skaljar Clan leader Jovan Vukotic”, his statement said.

Dukaj acknowledged that four or five months earlier, a friend from Pristina had contacted him and asked him to meet him. He did not say his friend's name from Kosovo, but revealed the name of the person he asked to meet. According to Dukaj, he met with national Indri Kollesi, previously convicted of fraud in Albania.

Minister Dukaj said it was indrill coughing that asked him for help in providing asylum for the Turkish mafia, but that he personally promised nothing concrete, just interest in the case according to asylum procedures and laws. /euronews/
