The Ukrainian Air Force said on January 6th that they destroyed a Russian command centre at Saki Air Base in the occupied Crimea Peninsula.
The attacks, according to Air Force, were carried out overnight.
“All targets have been destroyed”, Air Force Commander Mykola Olechuk said, through a post on the telegram, adding that Russia lost “and a command centre in the Crime/Mua”.
This claim by Ukraine comes a day after Kiev said it has carried out an attack on a Russian military command centre and a military unit in the Crimean, causing serious “in Russian defence system.
Nataliya Humenyuk, spokeswoman for Ukraine's Southern Protection Forces, said on January 5th that extremely powerful combat operations “took place earlier this week, vigorously hitting the Russian Army in Crime.
Russia on January 6th claimed its forces fired four Ukrainian missiles during the night in Crime.
These reports cannot be verified independently.
Since Moscow began its brutal invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Ukrainian forces have often carried out attacks on Russian military targets in Crime, the peninsula that was illegally annexed by Russia in 2014.
The Saki air base was announced in September 2023, after Ukraine said its army had hit the base, causing serious “serious damage” of the equipment on the base. But, officials installed by Moscow in Crime denied these Kiev claims.
August 2022 base was the target of Ukrainian air strikes, with Kiev claiming to have destroyed at least nine military planes, including Su-30 fighter planes SM and Su-24M.
Both Ukraine and Russia have escalated the attacks in recent days as the war approaches the second anniversary. / REL
