Serbian opposition politician Nikola Sandulovic has been released from custody in Serbia's southern town of Nis on Monday, his defence attorney, Cedomir Stojkovic, announced, adding that this decision was taken “following the added pressure” from Western countries.
“Nicola Sandulovic has just been released... to protect himself from charges that he had placed flowers near the grave of an Albanian girl”, Stojkovic wrote on the social X network.
Former head of Serbia's Security and Information Agency (BIA), Aleksandar Vulin, said on January 6th that Sandulovici had been arrested on his orders, which he said was in force even after his resignation.
Vulin told Serbian media that the reason for his arrest was the establishment of flower wreaths in the village of Prekaz in Kosovo.
Earlier, the Prosecutor's Office in Nis had confirmed to Radio Free Europe that Sandulovic was in custody from January 5th, under suspicions “that he has committed criminal acts of inciting hatred and national, racial and religious failure”. / REL
