The Municipal Assembly of Northern Mitrovica has approved the exploitation of public space for collecting petition signatures concerning the dismissal of President Erden Attic. This petition is organised by the Serbian initial group.
According to the Speaker of the Parliament, Nexhat Ugljani, the necessary number of citizens for signing is 3640.
“With the Municipal Assembly delegates in consultations that have come Friday from the initial group, we as the Municipal Assembly have decided to give public space where they are in charge, public space is the sports hall in the northern section for the petition meeting for the chairman's dismissal. From the election commission we got the 20% number, that's 3,640 signature”- Ugliyan said.
He therefore argued that the deadline for signing collection is January 22nd, 2024.
The “they are required by January 22nd 2024 to bring petitions to the head of the Municipal Assembly, which is mandatory according to the administrative instruction sent to the Election Commission. But administrative instruction also envisions a relief for the initiative group that is not able to, if they have any trouble or problem, they may beg for 15 days/”.
Asked when the petition is expected, Ugljani said that “according to information would be kept on January 17th or January 18th”.
Erden Attic was elected mayor of this municipality in April last year in elections held in four northern Kosovo municipalities.
The position he won officially took on May 19, 2023, after his oath.
Several months later, on October 13th 2023, the Serbian List ʹ changed its stance by announcing they will participate in the elections warned in four northern municipalities.
The April 23rd elections, in which four municipalities -- North Mitrovica, Zubin Potok, Zvecan and Leposaviq -- were won by Albanian chairman, boycotted by the Serbian List.
