Osman for the purchase of “Javelin”: Our Republic is entering a new phase of national defence

Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has said that our state is entering a new and crucial phase for national defence capabilities, developing the Kosovo Security Force according to NATO standards.

Osman's full statement:

Our Republic is now entering a new and crucial phase for our national defence capabilities, developing the Kosovo Security Force according to NATO standards and further deepening relations with our strategic partner, the United States.

As president of the Republic and Commander General of the KSF, I want to congratulate all the efforts and energy our defence institutions have made over the years to ensure that we meet the compensation criteria of the US State Department's Foreign Military Sale Programme.

In particular, I would like to express my gratitude to Secretary of State Blinken, with whom we engaged in discussions concerning FMS in July 2022, U.S.A.

The United States Department of Defence and Congress, which has now received official notice of Kosovo's intention to buy weapons systems through the FMS programme.

As the US government substantially stressed: “This proposed sale will support the goals of foreign policy and national security of the United States by improving the security of a European partner, which is an important force for political and economic stability in Europe. The proposed sale will improve Kosovo's long-term defence capacity to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity and meet its national defence requirements”.

I have full confidence that Congress will support this possible sale to the most pro-American nation in the world, as an act that will increase security in Kosovo, our region, and the European continent.
