The renowned mosque jam of the hospital's neighbourhood, Labinot Maliqi, has called on the education authorities, in particular to Minister Arberie Nagavci, to review the position on administrative instruction that prohibits wearing the headscarf to public school institutions.
It labels this ban as advertising and not in line with basic principles of democracy and human rights.
On the eve of the start of the second half anniversary of the school year, Imam Maliqi urges their daughters and parents not to hesitate to practice their right to express religious beliefs.
It encourages them to wear headscarves publicly and proudly, stressing that the veil is not merely a religious symbol but a religious obligation according to Islamic faith.
“There is no need for permission from anyone else to practice such a fundamental right,” stresses Maliqi.
He also asks them to inform the responsible person at school of their decision to cover their heads, adding that they should not be afraid of potential obstacles.
Maliqi also offers support to parents and stewards who can face legal challenges as a result of this change, promising assistance through legal means and ensuring that their rights for education and free practice of faith are protected as envisioned in the Constitution of Kosovo.
Imam Maliqi reiterates his call to Minister Nagavci to reflect on this issue and take action to abolish the ban, which he calls controversial to democratic and constitutional values.
He closes his call with congratulations on success in lessons and prayers for increased knowledge.
