French Ambassador to Kosovo Olivier Guerot has said that part of his work concerns dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.
Guerots, among other things, in an interview for Clankosova.tv has suggested that they expect an agreement to be reached between the two countries as soon as possible.
As soon as possible. It's in the interest of Kosovo. The EU has made a proposal for an Association statute. We expect it to be implemented quickly. The two countries -- Kosovo and Serbia -- made commitments during last February/March, especially to the EU”, have declared Guerot in an interview for Klan.
French diplomat, the job of ambassador to Kosovo, values the attack on Zvecan Banjska.
He also speaks of the security aspect, saying that there are numerous dangers to new tensions in the country.
“A significant part of my work concerns dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, facilitated by the European Union, in which France plays a considerable support role. The past 15 months since I delivered the credentials have been very intense on this issue, with moments of high tension and even dramatic moments such as the attack on Banjska on September 24th, but progress, beginning with the adoption of the Brussels/Ohri agreement and the proposal by the European mediator of a draft state-state”, has further added Guerot.
This proposal makes the prospect of association at once very concrete and much less disturbing for those who feared that association could be unconstitutional. The license issue is also being resolved, and I note that Serbian citizens are taking advantage of the opportunity to call for a vote to revote elected mayors on April 23rd. The results of these elections were certainly legal, but they do not offer a long-term political solution. It is positive that citizens are using this procedure offered by the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo to improve the situation. So in general, 15 months very busy, with many contrasts, there's a lot to do, with lots of risks to new tensions, but also positive achievements and these are the ones I want to remember”, French Ambassador Olivier Guerot stressed.
