The European Union has called on Kosovo to find the solution to the issue of the use of the Serbian dinar in Kosovo, which according to a Kosovo Central Bank regulation on February 1st, this currency is prohibited on the territory of the Republic of Kosovo, Kosovo reports.
We naturally took notes about this, and we also took notes of the consequences this decision has and will have in the Serb community. This raises concerns, namely, about the impact it will have on the Serbian community, especially in schools and hospitals, for which there is no alternative immediate process of”.
This regulation will directly impact the daily lives of the majority of Kosovo Serb communities, receiving salaries or financial assistance from Serbia, in Serbian dinars. So given the potential consequences of this regulation in the process of normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia, we expect that the aspects affecting the Serb community in Kosovo will be addressed in the context of the EU-launched dialogue. We call for an appropriate period of transition that allows for finding a negotiated solution on this specific matter”, EU foreign policy spokesman Peter Stano said during a conference Monday in Brussels, Klan Kosova reports.
Otherwise, the dinar issue is expected to be the lead of discussions that will take place in Belgrade on Monday and Tuesday in Pristina, the EU special representative for Kosovo-Serbia dialogue Miroslav Lajcak
