Charles Michel announces candidacy for European Parliament elections, here are the scenarios after his departure from office.

The news was made known by Michel himself to Belgian media.

Michel plans to leave his current post in mid-July, if he manages to win the election.

This means that EU leaders will have to agree quickly to a successor for his release post in the Council.

If that is not achieved, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, whose country will assume the rotating presidency of the EU Council in July, would lead the meetings a moderator role usually undertaken by the president of the European Council.
