The Central Election Commission (KQZ) on Thursday has made a decision to suspend the political party, the United States Roma Party of Kosovo (PREBK) after failing to hold its electoral assembly under the legal deadline. Late deadline for holding assembly/election treaty for PRBK was January 6, 2024, reports Online Economics.
According to the CEC decision, PRBK is obliged to keep its electoral assembly in an additional 45-day term, and if this is not achieved, then according to the policy of registering and functioning political parties, the CEC makes the decision to unregister the political parties' registry in Kosovo.
According to Law No. 08/L-288 for the General Elections in the Republic of Kosovo, all registered political parties are obliged to hold the electoral assembly within six months of the party registration date and then at least every 48 months.
CEC member from the Vetevendosje Movement ranks Sami Kurteshi said this decision is discrimination, as similar violations have been made by other parties.
“This is the case of some parties suspended for this, one case we have with the same conditions and we have not suspended and I want to stress that we are making discrimination under the same circumstances for different conditions. This is the classic case of discrimination”, he said.
