EU top diplomat Josep Borrell has openly accused Israel of funding Hamas' Palestinian militant group on Friday. As quoted by Spanish prestige “El Pais”, Borell has said that this is what Israel has done to weaken the Palestinian Authority, writes Politico, transmission Express.
“Hamas was financed by the Israeli government in an effort to weaken the Palestinian Authority”, Borrell was quoted as saying by the Spanish newspaper El País.
Borrell made these statements while speaking at the University of Waldadilide, Spain, where the Spanish politician was given an honorary doctor.
In his speech Friday, Borrell ré, who is responsible for EU foreign policy, also stressed that the creation of a Palestinian state is needed to resolve the ongoing conflict.
The only solution is to create two countries that share the land that they've died for for for 100 years”, Borrell was quoted as saying. He added that such a solution should be subx2>meded by outside”.
Meanwhile, Israel's response to Borell's statements has been harsh, denying the accusations.
God. Borrell's wrong. Far from trying to strengthen Hamas, as EU foreign policy chief claimed, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hit Hamas hard on three large-scale military operations; in 2012, 2014 and 2021”, Netanyahu's chief foreign policy adviser said in a statement.
After the October 7th massacre of over 1000 Israelis and over 250 hostages, Mr. Netanyah's war cabinet instructed the Israeli army to destroy Hamas”, he added.
