Council for the Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms ( KMDLNj, has called on citizens who consider that they have been looted with high electricity bills for December, exercise indictments in competent courts, and seek compensation from KESCO, ZRE and KEDS.
Last month the bills for the non-spented electricity were salted; up 400 percent higher than the previous month. KMDLNj has recommended that Kosovo citizens complain and pay only the previous month's sum. Long lines of citizens who are complaining about these abnormal bills have been created before KDS sports, and expectations are several hours”, the KMDLNJ communiqué says.
“The reactions of KEDS, KES/CO are reactions of thieves caught in the work, while the Kosovo Government's response is opportunistic and immoral. ZRE would have to carry out the regulator's mandate, rather than side with the criminal operator that misuses the Kosovo citizens' budget on ethnic and political grounds, from the end of the war to the present. For this, we have a decision by the competent Court that has ordered consumer damage for the tools that have been provided through bill inflated in order to pay off debts for Serbs and others in northern Kosovo”.
KMDLNj recommends Kosovo's citizens insist on realising their rights to return the means as long as they are damaged, seeking legal responsibility for those who planned it, allowed it and implemented it. The responsibility address is ZRE.
According to KMDLNj, <x0 selectors should seek revision of recent bills, not only with verbal opposition. Citizens should be organised in defense of their rights by protesting until the realisation of these rights and seek responsibility for the disusers. Due to the repetition of abuses, citizens should seek to cut off the contract with KEDs, as has happened in other countries where governments have defended the citizens' interest of consumers” respectively.
This last month's overdue should not be tolerated and passed without a firm response of citizens as long as Kosovo is the only country in the region, but even more broadly where the destiny of the current is not done on the basis of what you have spent but which ethnic community you belong to where Albanians, as absolute majority, are discriminated against in absolute size. And what constitutional right and equality before the law can we talk about?
Otherwise, high bills for the energy spent during December have prompted disparateness and reactions of citizens, but also political subjects.
The Kosovo Energy Distribution Company (KESCO) has clarified consumers that the final electricity tariffs have not changed.
Meanwhile, basic tariffs have been revised by an increase of about 15% compared to the period 2022-2023, as a result of a decision by the Energy Regulatory Office ( ZRGE, taken on April 1, 2023.
