Albania's President Bajram Begaj held today's reception evening with representatives of the diplomatic body in the country.
The head of Albanian State in his speech was focused on the achievements of the year we left behind, on the challenges of Albania, regional and global during 2024.
Speaking of Hamas' terrorist attack against Israel, he said it rekindled the conflict, exacerbating the security situation in the Middle East.
Begaj said Albania supports resolving the conflict and launching talks on finding solution with two states, in peace and in co-operation with each other.
He linked this development to our region, citing the case of the terrorist attack in Zvecan Banisk, September of the following year.
Our region has not been immune to the threat from the real crises. The September 2023 terrorist act in Banjska and other events in Kosovo are signs of a fragile status quo and a situation that could bring serious consequences to the region and Europe. Fortunately, there were no escalations”.
The support of the EU and the international community for conducting deep investigations into the identification and condemnation of promoters and authors is necessary. Solving Kosovo-Serbia disputes is not only a political issue, but also a security issue for the region and Europe”, the Albanian president said, among other things.
He said Albania supports Kosovo's integrity and sovereignty, as well as its Euro-Atlantic integration, while welcoming the EU decision on visa liberalisation with Kosovo citizens.
Begaj in this speech called on countries that still have recognised Kosovo to do so.
“For ambassadors of countries that have not yet recognised Kosovo, I want to reiterate the request to recognise the Republic of Kosovo as an irreversible reality”, Begaj said, as he reiterated Albania's support for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue to be open and advance, normalise relations between the parties and lead to mutual recognition.
In addition, it voiced hope that the Belgian and Hungarian presidencys of the Council of the European Union, as well as the Montenegrin presidency of the OSCE, will this year give due attention to the Western Balkan region in the function of the dominant spirit of co-operation and dialogue. /Klankosova. tv
