An American State Department spokesman in a response to the media has said that Kosovo should offer more time and consult communities affected by the December 27th BCK's decision, with which dinars payments in Kosovo are excluded on February 1st.

“We call on the Government of Kosovo to review this decision, consult with affected communities, respond to concerns expressed by the international community and provide sufficient time for its decisions to be implemented in order to ease the impact that those decisions will have on citizens” has the spokesman for Pavlovic Today said.

“We are concerned that the regulation adopted on December 27th will negatively affect the ethnic Serb community in Kosovo”, said further in response.

According to this medium, the State Department underlined that, in line with Kosovo law and pledges taken under the Ahtisaari Plan, Serbia “has the right to provide financial assistance to members of the ethnic Serb community in Kosovo”.

“This is why we continue to ask from Kosovo to fulfill its pledge to establish the Serbian majority municipalities' association (ASM)”, the spokesman was quoted as.

“AKMS is the primary mechanism through which Serbia can transparently provide financial support to institutions and individuals under the legal framework of Kosovo”, this official has declared further.

The State Department stressed that individuals in Kosovo who legally receive financial assistance from Serbia need access to a functional legal mechanism through which they can get that support”.

According to him, institutions offering vital services, such as education and health, “should be able to continue their functioning”.
