Avni Arifi calls for resignation from MP Paul Lekaj

Former Infrastructure Minister Pal Lekaj has been sentenced to three years and eight months in prison for misusing the official task and damaging Kosovo's budget. The sentence, pronounced by the Constitutional Court in Pristina on 31 January, concerns the separation of 53m euros to the additional consortium “Bechtel&Enka” for construction of the “Arba Xhaferi” highway.

Arifi has said on Wednesday that the process has not yet been completed, but adds Lekaj must defend himself in the quality of the citizen, not that of the AAK deputy chairman.

“Pali resigns to himself and the party. It's hard for me to believe that Mr. Lekaj is guilty but as Kosovo citizens I believe in the Kosovo legal system and in the final verdict by the Court of Appeals whatever it is. Mr. Lekaj despite being respected by many citizens he is now subject to justice and does not help himself or the AAK with political activity”, Arifi wrote on Facebook.
