The former leader of the National Liberation Army, the leader of DUI, the largest Albanian party, has remembered in the Macedonian Parliament the 2001 Ohrid Agreement, which ended the war in northern Macedonia.
Ahmeti specifically addressed two Macedonian opposition deputies -- Pavle Trajanov and Antonio Milososki -- who strongly opposed the election of the technical government led by Talat Xhaferin, who becomes the first Albanian prime minister in northern Macedonia.
The peaceful Ohrid Agreement gave Talat Xhaferi the deed to be master in the country and at his house”, Ali Ahmeti said, the Express newspaper.
The peaceful Agreement did not only change the character of the state, only the status of Albanians in their state. Turks, Vlachs, Serbs won... All won with the Ohrid Peace Accord. And this deal has made us a god in our house. And you should be proud, because for this 22 years we worked together”, the DUI leader said, among other things.
Ahmeti demanded that the state course be directed towards Europe, not Russia.
“Should be attentive to what policies we will lead. Are we gonna stay in installing those ideas so we can always keep our heads on Moscow's stomach? No! These two things together don't go. Brain and stomach have to get together because we've met them and we belong to Europe”, he said.
MP Milosovski, Ahmeti told him where he was born, himself had been persecuted by the Macedonian state and that his language was denied.
“Z. Milosovski. When you were born, February 29th of '76, I was a high school student, but a tenant, denied, ridiculed, crashed by those who ruled that time. I as a youth was not equal to the generation that taught me. I was denied the language of the nana, my parent was denied employment in his country, but should abandon the country and leave the limb in Austria”, he said.
“You speak as one who is one of parents who have left their limbs abroad, both in Austria and Libya”, Ahmeti said, citing that he and his family had experienced the suffering and torture of the system.
Was it better when he followed me along with my generation as a machine, terrorist, separatist, or, today, when they work together and we manage our common home?
By 65 votes, Talat Xhaferi was elected the first Albanian prime minister of Northern Macedonia.
