The country's prime minister, Albin Kurti from Pristina International Airport “Adem Jashari”, has again congratulated Kosovo citizens on visa removal.
Before the media, Kurti said that today they will travel to Vienna by 50 citizens who have won this opportunity under the government's campaign, broadcast Telegrafi.
We have been waiting too long, an injustice is being removed from today. Our citizens will now be able to move to 32 countries. Today, they will travel to Vienna 50 citizens who have won this opportunity under our campaign. To respect the criteria, and wherever we travel, let us not forget that our home is Kosovo. Happy New Year and for the last time happy visa liberalisation”, Kurti said.
We remember that the European Commission has estimated since July 2018 that Kosovo has met all visa Liberalisation Guide standards. But for political causes and internal reflections, the decision was postponed.
The decision on visa liberalisation for Kosovo was published on Tuesday and April 25th in the European Union's Official Journal. The move also formally closed the entire visa liberalisation process for Kosovo citizens. The decision was expected to take effect on January 1st of 2017, for all Kosovo citizens who own biometric passports issued by the state of Kosovo.
The European Commission in the decision for liberalisation had clarified that Kosovo passport carriers would not be able to travel to Spain, which does not recognise Kosovo's independence, nor its passports.
States included in the decision on visa liberalisation for Kosovars are: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland.
