It's seven engineers, a staff officer and 33 pedestrians. This year, for the first time, four women will participate in the peacekeeping mission. Military officers will leave on 27 January, and the official ceremony was held today.
Irina Chiosa is one of four women to come to the peacekeeping mission. The new one says that thanks to this mission it will be able to develop professionally. At her side on this important day was her mother.
I've been dreaming about this mission since I came to the military. We'll keep the base where we'll be accommodated, we'll have patrols every week”, says Lieutenant Chiosa.
I'm very nervous, first of all, because for the first time women go (molds, Saint.red.) there”, says Tatiana Chiosa, Irina's mother.
The mandate of KFOR's Moldovan contingent in Kosovo will last six months, where it will carry out security missions and guards of military targets.
We have prepared for this mission quite intensively, practically throughout my entire military career, and I am sure we will face all” missions, indicates Lieutenant Octavian Babei.
“In general, military training for the special mission lasts much more than a month and a half, it takes place in both the Republic of Moldova and abroad, especially in Germany”, Petru Tutunaru, commander, said.
Moldovan Defence Minister Anatolian Nosatei, a participant in the official ceremony, said Moldova has been sending soldiers to Kosovo under KFOR to maintain peace and security.
“over the past 10 years, Moldova, along with 26 other nations in a five thousand multinational contingent, has maintained peace and security in the Balkan region”, he said.
Representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Chisinev encouraged the military and wished them success.
Moldova's continued support for the initiative is part of the 26 partner countries' effort and reflects our common values for a more peaceful world”, the US Ambassador to Moldova Kent Logsdon stressed.
The consolidated experience gained in Kosovo has become very useful to allow Moldova to hold the UN's blue beret and to participate perfectly in the mission in Lebanon”, Italian Ambassador Lorenzo Tomasson noted.
