Former Vetevendosje Movement Chairman Visar Ymer has deemed Prime Minister Albin Kurti's behaviour towards the emissary wrong to accuse the European mediator of dialogue for normalising reports with Serbia, that it is “posing” against Kosovo.
Ymer says that while dialogue will be mediated by the same Office, this hostility with mediators is not good for Kosovo. He says Borrell and Lajcak have the support of EU member states and that in that position they are not as the proper name.
In a proposal for Online Economics, Ymer now head of the Institute for Social Policy “Musine Koklari” says the “war” with the European Union harms Kosovo. It says that this situation creates more problems than you can solve.
“S first, behavior is wrong for a process of dialogue which will continue to be mediated by this same Office, unless the prime minister has any information that will change the format and location of dialogue. So if we keep up with the same, I don't think this hostility with the mediators is good for Kosovo, much more when it's known that here we're not talking about proper names. Mr. Borrell is in the office with the support of 27 member states, there are other jobs besides Kosovo, and he has been assigned to the position because he has been seen the right one by EU member states, especially those that have political weight and full trust in both to mediate dialogue”, says Ymer.
When our prime minister comes out and accuses those who have sided with Serbia publicly, then I think it shows an extremely big problem that we are building with the European Union or with the distrust we are showing against the EU. The public discussion presents a diplomatic war in this case that you can't take back, and I think it creates more hostility than choice” is found, Ymer now says.
While speaking of charges of power against dialogue mediators, Ymer thinks otherwise. He says they cannot offer solutions unless such a thing is lacking the will of the parties.
The role of intermediaries is this, so they're middlemen and they can't find a solution. They can propose solutions by listening to the positions of the parties - if there is no will between the sides - you cannot succeed in negotiating. Except for when you impose and they were not democratic. We have such a plan with the Franco-German plan that, according to Prime Minister Kurti, has come in the form of taking it or leaving it, but such conditioning cannot be made by middlemen, they can make member states that have diplomatic and economic powers, from which we have interest and I think that we should see this dialogue in this spirit”, says Ymer.
In addition to complaints by the rulings for the European Union's “bypassing”, Ymer has sought to improve Kosovo's position in the international arena. He says the same can't be done with combat threats.
Now where I have the problem with the way the mediators have been brought to some extent a considerable part of the Western world is that sometimes for our eyes and of course for the fun like Kosovars, it often seems to us that they are so much softer towards Serbia that they are towards Kosovo. This is one of the remarks I believe in each citizen of the Republic, but we say that from the perspective of subjectives that we have for the process that is not the same view Westerners have of the process and agreement with both countries. In these situations against what we often feel is being wronged even when it's objectively unfair, I think we should still be at the most efficient and pragmatic political level in order to improve Kosovo's position through diplomatic routes because we can't improve it through the threats of fighting”, Ymer says.
