Serbia's President Aleksandar Vuciq has said he expects new pressure from the West for imposing sanctions against Russia for the war launched in Ukraine.
Vuciq has said on September 19th in New York where he is participating in the UN General Assembly he expects European officials “to lecture” during meetings that Serbia has not imposed sanctions against Russia.
“
Serbia's president has also said, when he will realise he will no longer be able to continue, he will not implement such a policy, but, according to him, Serbia “has acted responsibly for a year and seven months, which is sincere, responsible and fair”.
Serbia is the only country in the Balkan region that has not imposed sanctions on Moscow.
A day earlier, European top diplomat Josep Borell has said Serbia is not acting in line with the European Union's decision to continue sanctions on Russia for another year.
His statement has been reference to the sanctions the EU has imposed on Russia since 2014, due to Moscow's decision to annex the Ukrainian Crimea Peninsula.
The war in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022.
Russian President Vladimir Putin calls the war “special military operation” to demilitarise Ukraine.
The West has responded to Russia, striking the economy of this state with severe sanctions.
As a result of the war, thousands have died, and millions of others have been displaced from their homes. / REL
