Serbia's president, Alexander Vuciq, has told him Financial Time that he has no intention of ordering military forces to cross the border in Kosovo, despite American officials' warnings of a troop increase in borders with Kosovo.
Vucic said that an escalation of the conflict would be counterproductive to Belgrade's EU aspirations.
Why would this be useful for Belgrade? “What would be the idea? To destroy our position that we've built for a year? To destroy this in a day? Serbia does not want war”.
On Friday, the spokesman for the White House National Security Council, John Kirby, said the US had observed an unprecedented “incedenting of artillery, tanks and mechanised Serbian infantry units” on the border with Kosovo and called it a very destabilising development.
“We call on Serbia to withdraw those forces from the border and contribute to temperature reduction and tension”, said Kirby, adding that Vucic and Antony Blinken, the US secretary of state, had talked about ways to calm the situation.
The U.S.'s state alert, Vuciq called it a “paused”, even slipping with his tongue to call the American alarm like “a pure lie”.
Last year we had 14,000 men near the administrative line, today we have 7,500 and we will reduce it to 4,000. “Sending troops from Serbia to administrative line is a clear lie. . Serbia would not benefit from it, as it would jeopardise its position in EU-sponsored talks with Pristina”, he said.
The situation is tense after a terrorist group on September 24th attacked the Kosovo Police, thereby killing police officer Africa Bulnjak, now Kosovo hero.
