The special state prosecutor at the end of the week announced that she has filed charges against 21 persons for unauthorized drug production, money laundering, illegal weapons disposal, classified information and misuse of the official position.
In addition to Budva Mayor Milo Bozovic, and one of the alleged leaders of the province's clan, Radoj Switzerland, accused of being police officer Ljubo Milovic, National Security Agency employee Petar Lazovic and former police assistant director.
Bozovic was arrested in mid-April on suspicion that he organised the transport of three cocaine shipments and is in custody. Lazovic and Knezevic were also detained. Milovich and Switzerland and several other defendants are on the run.
According to the Montenegrin newspaper Vijesti, the indictment charges Budva chairman with establishing a criminal and drug smuggling organisation, while Knezevic is accused of extracting classified information and abuse of official office.
Members of the criminal group are accused, among other things, of smuggling 4.3 tonnes of cocaine, cleaning up seven million euros, and causing total risk and illegal weapons.
