Former Kosovo Police Director Raspje Qalaj has stated there has never been a request by internationals that police get permission to operate in the country's north. Responding to NATO Secretary Jens Stoltenberg's statements that special forces cannot go north without KFOR reconciliation, Qalaj says this is due to Prime Minister Kurti's uncoordinated actions with allies.

Speaking of the MPs' visit to NATO headquarters, Qalaj says NATO representatives have expressed concern for the situation in the north.

“We have been a delegation of Kosovo Parliament deputies to visit NATO parliamentary assembly, and we have more or less expected these positions which have been expressed at the press conference by the secretary NATO and the president of Kosovo. Since all the time we've been visiting so many political deputies that we've represented that delegation, the main concern has been the north, and the main concern has been speaking from the NATO side of the transition as quickly as the situation in the north. In that spirit I also see the statement made by the secretary NATO's, though, is strange to me, the question of involving special police units in his statement. But this is a consequence of a failure to co-ordinate the actions of the Kosovo government, the Interior Ministry with our strategic partners”, he says of Online Economics.

The Democratic Party of Kosovo MP stressed that so far there has never been a request, nor a restriction, was Kosovo's Special Police Unit receiving permission from KFOR to operate in the north.

There has never been a request so far, nor has there been a restriction, nor an agreement that Kosovo Police should get permission from KFOR or any other international security institution. I repeat, so far it is the first time the Kosovo Police have been asked to obtain permission from KFOR for its presence in the north, I am talking about Kosovo Police Special Unit. And I think that what we've said as opposition all the time I think the Government of Kosovo has made a big mistake that the actions in the north have taken without co-ordination with our partners and especially without co-ordination with the US”, he said.
