Teaching in Ukraine begins at the risk of Russian bombs

It was a quiet summer morning in Remi, a village in northern Ukraine. As Tetyana Prokopenko, a local teacher, left for work last Wednesday, she told her husband that she would hold several meetings to prepare for the new school year. Shortly after 10 a.m., it [...]

Shortly after 10 o'clock in the morning, she was to be killed, along with her deputy, secretary, and librarian.

They remained dead after a fears Russian suicide attack that destroyed almost the entire school.

She was too fond of that school, she was her life. She was there 24 hours a day and seven days a week”, her husband, Prokopenko, said crying.

Russian air strikes will be a permanent threat to Ukrainian teachers, nurses and parents, as the new school year began there today, writes BBC.

According to Ukrainian authorities, more than 360 school centres have been destroyed, and more than 3,000 have been damaged during the war with Russia.

Russia and Amnesty International have accused Ukraine of building military bases in schools, but Kiev considers the “areas of mismanagement and propaganda”.

To reduce the daily threat, many students will learn from a distance, and it is up to the authorities to decide whether classes will be held in classrooms or at home.

The decision depends on the security situation of each region and whether schools have bomb shields.

Ukraine's largest city, Kharkiv, is close to Russia's border and as such is often attacked. So the lesson there will only be from a distance.

The school curriculum is also adapting to the state of war and the mine protection lesson will now be mandatory.

Another change that has occurred after the start of the war with Russia is the departure of several Russian writers last year from the Ukrainian Ministry of Education.

But whatever influence the long - range learning can have on Ukraine, teachers, officials, and parents agree: security is above all. /Periscopi/
