A few days after Russian mercenary chief Yevgeny Pigozin was quietly buried after a suspicious plane crash, a video appeared in social media allegedly showing Vladimir Putin attending his funeral. Advertisement
As they write Foreign mediaThe video shows the Russian president putting flowers in a coffin before ultimately refusing to enter his limo.
In the last seconds of the video, Putin is seen leaving alone.
“Vladimir Putin makes his last honours to Yevgeny Pigozin, Wagner's chief, and then he refuses to get on his limo and walks on his feet...”, wrote a commentator.
Prigozhi died in a plane crash on August 23rd in the Tver region near Moscow exactly two months after organising a brief rebellion against the Ministry of Defence and its chief.
Vladimir Putin pledged to punish the uprising participants, but hours later reached an agreement with Pigozin, providing him and his mercenaries with an amnesty.
The secrecy about the funeral and Putin's reported non-participation led to speculation that the Kremlin could be after the plane crashed.
But the Kremlin dismissed these rumors, calling them an absolute “lie”.
And to find out if Putin was actually filmed participating in the memorial service, Euronews has made a search and found that the viral video had nothing to do with Prigozy's funeral.
According to the medium in question, the original video was posted on YouTube and dated to 2013.
It shows Vladimir Putin taking part in Anatolian memorial Rakel, former coach of Judo's president.
Rakhlin, who was Putin's Judo instructor and mentor for 15 years, died at the age of 75 on August 7, 2013.
According to media reports, after Putin left the service to Rakel, he told members of his security team that he wanted to be alone.
He then reportedly continued to walk without his usual escort of bodyguards and press. /Telegraph
